infoDART Configuration Dialog

Description

Right clicking the infoDART's system tray icon and selecting the "Configuration" menu item from the pop-up menu displays the configuration dialog.  This pop-up menu can also be accessed by right clicking the infoDART Search-Bar.

The configuration dialog contains various options that can be modified to change the default Hot-Key used to initiate searches, application behavior and login information. These options are saved and will be recalled upon pressing the "Ok" button after changes have been made.   A description of each option is provided below each screenshot below.

General Configuration Tab

All of the most common application options that change the application's default behavior are located on the first tab of the configuration dialog. Descriptions of each option is provided below.

Hot Key Configuration

The Hot-Key sequence used to initiate a search with highlighted text is defaulted to "CTRL+SHIFT+A" upon installing the application.  Users may change the Hot-Key sequence to their choosing, but only Hot-Key sequences not reserved by other applications may be selected and applied.  When applying the configuration dialog changes by pressing the "OK" button, users may be alerted that the Hot-Key they have selected is already affiliated with another application or Windows.  If this occurs, pick another Hot-Key sequence and apply the settings again.

If the Hot-Key fails to respond, it may be because the current Hot-Key setting is already affiliated with another application. Some Hot-Key sequences such as "Windows+E", "Windows+F", and "Windows+R" are already reserved by Windows and may not be used.  The "Windows-Key" is usually located between the "CTRL" and "ALT" keys on either side of newer keyboards. Not all keyboards have the Windows-Key.

  • Hold Key(s) - Identifies the modifier key used in conjunction with a letter key to form a hot key sequence.

  • Letter Key  - Identifies the letter key used in conjunction with a modifier key to form a hot key sequence.

Search History

Up to 50 search keys are stored in the infoDART Search-Bar and recalled each time the application is started.  The history can be cleared each time the application is terminated or by clicking the "Clear History" button within this section of the configuration dialog.  Users may or may not like the auto-text completion feature of the Search-Bar and can enable or disable this feature.

  • Auto clear history - Clears the Search-Bar search history each time  the application is closed.  This feature can be used as a security feature to prevent other users from previewing the types of searches made by previous users.

  • Clear History - This button simply empties the search history.

Search-Bar Behaviour

  • Keep the USA Info Search-Bar on top of all windows - This option prevents the Search-Bar from being hidden by other windows by ensuring it always floats overtop of all other windows.

  • Display Hot-Key notification pop-up window - Every time the Search-Bar is closed the "Hot-Key" notification pop-up window is displayed to remind users that the infoDART hot key is enabled and that the application is still running in the Windows system tray.  This option can be set to show or suppress this message.

  • Start infoDART on system startup - Launches the infoDART each time your computer starts up.

Internet Explorer Browser Reuse Feature

This is a beta-feature which helps the infoDART reuse the Internet Explorer Web browser it spawns. A new Internet Explorer browser window is opened to avoid replacing the contents of another opened non-infoDART browser window. The infoDART Web-browser is reused for consecutive queries.

By default, infoDART uses the last browser window opened. This default behavior can replace content in an existing browser window.

Login Tab

Login information for Specifications and Haystack can be modified in this area of the configuration dialog. Login information is provided by IHS Inc (http://www.ihs.com) or by your account administrator within your company. If you are denied access to the IHS website after running a query, validate your current login settings within this dialog.

Two login sections are provided. Users may have different logins for Specifications / Standards and Haystack. The "Use same credentials as above checkbox" may be checked to provide only one set of login credentials if your login is the same for both account types.
